landfillThe mission of the Solid Waste and Recycling Division is to provide adequate public solid waste management facilities and recycling programs which are fiscally sound and operated in accordance with all rules and regulations of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), in order to protect the environment from degradation, promote good public health, and conserve natural resources.

Current facility operations include:

2 lined Class I garbage disposal cells.
1 construction and demolition debris landfill.
A Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center.
A Recyclable Materials Center.
Waste Tire Collection Center.
Leachate Collection and Storage Tank System.
A scrap metal sorting and storage area.
Two residential Convenience Centers

Household waste is deposited in a Class I landfill and covered with layers of soil. As garbage decomposes, a liquid substance called leachate forms. Leachate, along with stormwater and groundwater runoff, must be properly contained and treated so as not to pollute bodies of water surrounding the area. State-of-the art technology and methods are used in treatment of solid waste at the landfill.

Anyone wishing to dispose of two bulk items per year for free, must contact your trash hauler to make arrangements. The phone numbers are:
