New Trash Collection Service

On January 2, 2012, Republic Services, Inc., also known as Seaside Sanitation will begin providing trash collection services for all subscribing Hernando County residents. Republic Services will replace Central Carting, Inc. (Choice Environmental) and Waste Management, Inc.

All existing solid waste collection franchises expired September 30, 2011. After advertising for sealed bids, on June 22, 2011, the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners awarded the term contract to the lowest, responsible and responsive bidder – Republic Services, Inc., also known as Seaside Sanitation. Seaside Sanitation has provided trash collection services in the eastern part of Hernando County since 1979.

Both Waste Management and Choice Environmental agreed to extend their services from September 30th to December 31, 2011, with Republic Services taking over on January 2, 2012.

Hernando County staff has been working closely with Republic Services to ensure an efficient transition and to notify residents of the change. Fliers and Frequently Asked Questions information sheets will be mailed or delivered to all customers by Republic Services in December.

Public Hearing Scheduled to Consider Solid Waste Collection Boundary Changes  - April 16, 2013

purpose of considering a resolution to modify the boundaries for the universal Spring Hill solid waste collection area.

Below is a summary of the changes customers may expect:

• Weekly curbside recycling instead of every other week

• Yard waste pick up twice a month versus no separate pick up

• Blue trucks instead of green

• Garbage pick up remains twice a week, either Monday & Thursday or Tuesday & Friday - those with Wednesday & Saturday collections will be notified of their new days

Republic Services/Seaside Sanitation observes the same holidays as the
Northwest Solid Waste Facility:

New Year's Day
Christmas Day
Independence Day
Thanksgiving Day
(no collection service if holiday falls on Monday-Friday)

PLEASE NOTE: If a holiday falls on your collection day and it is one of the holidays that there is no collection,
your next scheduled pick up day will be when your garbage is collected

Example: Christmas and New Years are on Tuesday, there will be no collection on those days, only Friday
