May is National Bike Month

Brooksville Cycling Classic 2010May is National Bike Month

With Spring in the air, Hernando County, the City of Brooksville, the Suncoast Trail Advisory Group and the Hernando Health Experience encourage everyone to participate in their own way.
Since 1956, the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) has been celebrating Bike Month during the month of May. Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists, said, “Biking to work is an efficient and fun way to get the exercise you need, without having to find extra time to work out. And this year, with gasoline prices as high as they are, biking to work makes more sense than ever.” For more information,

Why Bicycle?

People ride bicycles for many reasons. The best reasons benefit both society and you:

  • Reduced air pollution - Bicycles don't have emissions like gas powered motor vehicles so, they don't
    add to the carbon dioxide and particulate emissions in the atmosphere.
  • Reduces noise pollution - Bicycles generate little if any noise as compared to motor vehicles that
    can create deafening levels of noise en masse.
  • Reduced traffic congestion - Bicycles take up less space on the road and have more maneuverability
    that motor vehicles, which reduce traffic congestion.
  • Conserving resources like oil- Bicycles don't need fuel
  • Improving cardiovascular health- Good old exercise gets the heart going and the blood pumping.
  • Increased energy and endurance - The more exercise you get the more you can endure.
  • Stronger legs and improved lean muscle mass - Gain muscle and strength; muscle mass is
    the passenger that pays.
  • Weight loss -Loose fat by Bicycling: Fat is the non paying passenger ;
  • Save money - By Bicycling you are not having to pay the escalating costs of fuel and car maintenance.
