Mission Statement
The mission of Aquatic Plant Management is to provide residents with aquatic and terrestrial plant management services to
ensure recreational boating navigation in County public waterways, to improve
drainage, to prevent mosquito breeding, and to improve environmental integrity
by protection of native botanic communities.
Goals
- Ensure recreational boating
navigation in County public lakes, canals and rivers.
- Improve drainage and prevent
mosquito breeding in rivers, canals, ditches and retention ponds.
- Maintain environment integrity
by controlling invasive exotic plant species and protecting native plant
communities.
Objectives
- Conduct aquatic plant control
in public lakes, canals, rivers, and other waterways by using a combination of
in-house staff and private contractors.
- Complete resident service
requests within ten working days.
- Control invasive exotic
highland plants by using a combination of in-house staff and private
contractors.

Accomplishments
of Prior Year
- 60 Acres of Brazilian Pepper
Plants treated on County right-of-ways in the coastal areas.
- 500 acres of aquatic and
highland weeds mowed on waterways.
- 724 acres of waterways
inspected monthly and approximately 120 acres of exotic weed treated by
contracting work to Southwest Florida Water Management District.
- 30,900 invasive plants treated
on conservation lands by contracting to a private firm.
