Office of Management & Budget

The Hernando County Office of Management and Budget (OMB) consists of Management / and Budget services. With a staff of two under the direction of the  Budget Services Manager, the division's main function is to provide the Board of County Commissioners, through the County Administrator's Office, as much accurate detail and timely information as possible to enable the Board to make educated policy decisions and ensure that those financial decisions are carried out and implemented.

By instilling confidence and teamwork not only within the division but with all County Departments, the Office of Management and Budget strives to assure that the taxpayers of Hernando County receive the best possible services through the most effective and efficient methods.

MANAGEMENT & BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES

It is the responsibility of the Office of Management and Budget to provide support and assistance to the Board of County Commissioners, County Administrator, and the various Departments and Divisions under their control in the development, updating, and implementation of management and budget policies. To formulate and produce a financially sound budget document which will govern the activities of Hernando County for the coming fiscal year.

The County's fiscal year runs from October 1st through September 30th. The Budget process begins in February of each year. Budget workshops are held with the Board of County Commissioners in mid-May and the County Administrator presents the proposed budget to the Board in mid-July. Two public hearings on the budget are held in September. At the second public hearing, the Board adopts the final budget which takes affect October 1st.
