***IMPORTANT NOTICE***
EDUCATION AND TRANSPORTATION (ROADS) IMPACT FEES
SUSPENDED THROUGH FEBRUARY 29, 2016
 

The Education and Transportation Impact Fees are scheduled to go into effect on all
building permits applied for on or after March 1, 2016. Incomplete applications will
not be accepted in order to avoid impact fees.

Both ordinances provide for a "Savings Clause" option for contracts that were executed
prior to March 1st. The affidavit for this is below.

To use the "Savings Clause":

  • An affidavit from the contractor and an affidavit from the property owner are required to be
    submitted with a copy of the executed contract.
  • Affidavits can be submitted from March 1, 2016 through April 4, 2016.
  • If approved under the "Savings Clause", a completed permit application is required to be submitted
    by Aug 31, 2016.
  • The permit is to be issued within 180 days from the application date.

ATTENTION CONTRACTORS & DESIGN PROFESSIONALS
As-Built Drawing & Certification from civil engineer of record required for issuance of Certificate of Occupancy (C.O.)
 on new commercial construction permitted on or after January 1, 2014.

The mission of the Building Division is to promote the health, safety, and welfare of the residents of Hernando County through efficient and effective implementation of building codes and County regulations.

Objectives

  • Issue building and zoning permits for construction projects in Hernando County.

  • Conduct inspections of building, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical work at various stages of construction.

  • Issue and maintain contractor licenses.

  • Process the initial review of residential applications within five working days, and process the initial review of completed commercial applications with fifteen working days.

  • Adopt and enforce the Florida Building Code.

Florida Product Approval
Pursuant to the Florida Building Code, the following categories of products must be approved under the Florida Product Approval System:

  • Panel Walls
  • Exterior Doors
  • Roofing Products
  • Skylights
  • Windows
  • Shutters
  • Structural Components
  • New and Innovative Building Envelope Products

Hernando County requires completed "Product Approval" forms for these categories submitted with your plans and building permit application for new construction or remodeling of existing habitable structures. Failure to submit the required forms will delay plan review of your permit.
